Rebels Shooting Clinic Recap
SURE Shot System Review
- Set Point: this is the position you get to before every shot. This age group should focus on mastering the 1-2 step and creating the "L" with your shooting arm.
- Up Flow: this is when the player raises the ball from the set point to the release point. Mastering the up flow will allow a player to generate a smooth rhythm into their release. Try to raise the ball from the low "L" to the high "L".
- Release & Extension: during the release the player should let the ball roll off the fingertips and their shooting hand should finish with the fingers pointing down. Also, try to finish the extension with your elbow above your eye...this will help prevent a flat shot. The best drill to master the release & extension is the 1 Hand Shooting drill.
The 4 S's: while shooting off the move (off of screens), players should always set up the defender, sprint off the screen, run shoulder to shoulder using the screen, and make sure to get fully set (avoid shooting off balance).
Do you accept the challenge?
50 Shot Challenge: players will make 10 layups, 10 one-hand shots, 10 set shots, 10 elbow to elbow, and 10 off the dribble. Keep track of how many shots it takes to make 50.
