The Flow Process is a structured approach to develop a skill with maximum effectiveness & efficiency.
Step 1: Clarity/Awareness
The first step in the Flow Process is to raise your awareness. You want to get clear on 4 aspects...
- What is the specific goal and performance level I want to achieve?
- Why is this important to me?
- How do I develop this specific skill? Break the skill down into micro-skills...just like we do with our SURE Shot System (a step-by-step guide to help you develop a flawless stroke).
- What is my current skill level?
Step 2: Mindset
Simply put - our beliefs drive our behavior. And our behavior (i.e. actions) will determine our results. If we are intentional with our mindset, then we will set ourselves up for success by making consistent progress one step at a time. Just like a basketball player practices shooting or a musician practices their instrument, we must practice developing a growth mindset on a daily basis. Most players aren't aware or don't know how to intentionally develop a growth mindset...we will teach you how with the Flow Process. A growth mindset will help you...
- Embrace challenges
- Focus on the controllable (i.e. attitude & effort)
- Seek constructive feedback...or feedforward :)
- Become inspired and curious by the success of others
Step 3: Deliberate Practice Sprint
Deliberate practice is when we practice a specific micro-skill for the sole purpose of improvement. Often times, players may set a goal (e.g. to become a better shooter), but they fail to stick with it. Practicing for just a few days is not going to work. In the Flow Process, players set a time-frame that they will dedicate towards developing a specific skill. We call this a sprint. Deliberate practice is intense...but it also gets results. You will be amazed at how much better you can become at a skill with just 20 hours of deliberate practice.
You will also learn about the powerful effects of practicing with a present-minded focus. Many people sabotage their practice sessions by focusing on the past or future. The Flow Process will help you enhance your focus so you can get the most out of your training sessions.
Step 4: Grit
We understand that obstacles are inevitable during the development process, and the way we respond is often the difference of making a little progress or a lot. We will help you create a planned response so you can get back on track instantly and continue making progress with your skills.
Step 5: Support/Accountability
We believe that success is never achieved alone. The greatest players have great coaches. That is why the last phase of the Flow Process is all about having someone to support you and hold you accountable to your own goals.
